It is estimated that one in nine women will develop Breast cancer at some stage during their lives. (Cancer Research UK 2005)
Every year over 44,000 women are diagnosed with Breast cancer. (Breakthrough Breast Cancer)
Around 8,000 of these women will be in their 20's, 30's, and 40's, of these 6,000 are in their 40's. Over 2,000 will be in their 20's and 30's.
Between 200 and 300 men are diagnosed in the UK (Ogden 2004).
Breast cancer is the most commonest cause of cancer in women.Reasons why a women develops Breast Cancer are still unknown, however a few factors exist, such as genetics, environmental, lifestyle and age.
The number of young and middle aged women dying from the disease has fallen by almost a third since 1980.
Breast Cancer is the commonest cause of cancer in Ethnic minority groups in the UK (info by Breast cancer awareness campaign).
Survival rates are improving, 74% of women are still alive 5 years later.
Early detection and better treatments improve mortality rates. It is imperative that you regularly physically examine yourself in order to detect any problems.
